Tablet Pcs Race towards the Bottom Released by Barnes & Nobles Nook
The low-end model of Apple's 2 retails for $499, but it takes a lot of loyalty to Apple for someone to comply with that pricing model these days laptop tablet. Barnes & Noble's Nook has emerged as a credible alternative towards the iPad, and has released a "race to your bottom" in tablet computer pricing.
Last month, the Journal revealed what Lifehacker readers had known for some time: A Barnes & Noble Nook can be hacked to work as an Android tablet. Since the Nook retails for $250, many tech-savvy consumers see it as a better option than the iPad. Today, another Wall Street Journal writer has unveiled information that confirms the earlier piece's thesis: Barnes & Noble has created an application store as well as a built-in e-mail program for the current model of its Nook color. In other words, Barnes & Noble is clearing positioning its Nook as a tablet killer, rather than merely an e-book reader.
And we are just talking about Barnes & Noble here (great bookstore, but not known for technological advances). How long will it take for Amazon to turn the Kindle (already priced as low as $139) into an iPad And what about and the other computer-based companies that are turning out Android devices
